Week 6. Our New House.
Steve and I couldn't be more thankful for our new house in North Carolina. We can't say thank you enough to grandma Jane and grandpa Wayne. With a huge yard, pond in the back and right next door to Steve's parents, we are beyond ready for April to get here. Did I mention the two old barns in the back? They would make for some amazing photographs.
Being that it is an older house it needed some work but free is free! We were up for the challenge and thankfully so was our support system back home. We don't know what we would have done if it wasn't for everyone who has helped in one way or another. Thankfully my dad is retired and so is Steve's grandpa so they spend most of their time at our new house working. Everyone else pitches in here and there as their schedule allows. The other night Steve and I were on the phone with my dad talking about the house and he said thank goodness for Kay (Steve's grandma), she is always cleaning up behind them. I think they make quite a few messes(;
How it all started ...
When I went home in December we started the renovation work to the house. Starting with the living room we were working our butts off everyday all day long. We decided to go with a almond color brown on the walls. This really made the fire place pop out. We pulled up the carpets and the hardwood floor turned out to be beautiful. While Steve and I were at home we got the living room, yellow bathroom, green bedroom and the hallway down. Since we have been back in Kansas they have completed our RED bedroom. Which I couldn't possibly be more excited to decorate. The kitchen has came a long way. It is grey and black. All of our appliances for the kitchen are going to be black as well. (ie our new fridge and stove) They replaced the counter top since we have been back in Kansas and from the looks of pictures the counter top is pretty dagum awesome. My sister has really emphasised how much she loves the kitchen. Being that we are sisters and so close well we pretty much have the same taste. Therefore I know the kitchen is adorable. My dad and Steve's grandpa have been most recently working on the dining room. My dad thinks it is going to be the prettiest room in the house. It was all wood paneling and since that has been changed it makes the room look SO much bigger. There were two entrance way doors from the living room into the dining room and after my dad and Charlie taking those down we have realized how much more open it looks so we have decided to keep those down. Now our big decision is which bedroom set to use. We have our king bedroom set in Kansas and we have my queen bedroom set at my parents. They are both ours we just have to decide which one to use in the new house. The one we have here is a lighter color wood and the headboard is HUGE. The one at my parents is a really pretty cherry wood and a type of sleigh bed. Steve and I want to use the king bed but due to the HUGE size of it we just aren't sure yet. Steve and my dad are going to be doing measurements over the phone today so that should help our decision.
Steve gets his ETS orders from active duty on the 19th. After that we get to talk to travel about them packing our stuff and when we are going to be arriving in Greensboro. We should have a date for everyone very soon!

How about a little sneak peak?!
Ray and my dad working on the living room floor. Although it makes it like the walls are almost a orange/brown color that is not the case. I absolutely love the color we picked for the living room!
Kay working hard on the trim for the living room!!
My dad and Charlie in the process of putting down the new bathroom floor.
Momma Steve (I don't have my words backwards, we call her momma Steve) adding the finishing touches to the living room.
Ha! Melanie working "hard" in the kitchen.
Heather painting the cabinets. I think I caught her mid sentence.
Grandpa Charlie adding the finishing touches to the paint in the front bedroom.
Mom helping shape up the living room.
The red we picked. Its much brighter than this picture makes it seem.
My dad working on the dining room.
The kitchen counter top. Before and After.
...More to come soon ...
